Governor's International Education Day

International Education and Conflict Resolution

Why Governor's International Education Day?
To recognize the importance of a globally-educated citizenry in the 21st century and to celebrate the start of International Education Week 2006, the Virginia Council for International Education (VaCIE) invites the Commonwealth's international educators, area specialists, international students and study abroad returnees to Fairfax, Virginia, on November 13, 2006. Governor's International Education Day will highlight the importance of international education as a vehicle for promoting understanding and peaceful co-existence in Virginia and among nations.

Who Will Participate?
Participants will include international educators, area specialists, international students and study abroad returnees from any Virginia college or university. Only institutions (not individual students) may register with VaCIE to participate in this event. Individual institutions select their delegations and arrange for transportation to Fairfax. General Assembly Delegates and Senators from the districts of participating institutions will also be invited to be VaCIE's guests at the luncheon, to be held on the George Mason University campus.

Cost
The cost for the luncheon is

  • $13 for VaCIE member institutions
  • $20 for non-members.
Participating institutions are encouraged to cover all or part of their students' luncheon costs. VaCIE asks that payment be made in advance if possible, and payable to The Virginia Council for International Education, Inc. Checks should be mailed to the VaCIE Treasurer: Mr. Steve Johnson, Director, Study Abroad, Dragas International Center, Old Dominion University, Norfolk, VA 23529-0093

Six students - three international students and three study aborad returnees - will be named first-, second-, and third-place winners of the Governor's International Education Day 2006 Essay Contest, sponsored by VaCIE.
