GIED 2005 Schedule
Sunday, November 13th
(Optional) Arrive a day early to explore Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown, or Yorktown. Sightseeing, shopping, and history are at your fingertips! A special discount rate has been arranged for GIED attendees at the Hospitality House, an inn adjacent to the Campus and Colonial Williamsburg.
Monday, November 14th*
9:00 - 11:30 Tours of the Historic Campus (optional)
William and Mary students will offer tours of the historic campus of the College and Duke of Gloucester Street. Tours depart from the University Center.
10:00 - 12:00 Registration for attendees (University Center, Main Foyer)
Registration tables are located in the main foyer of the University Center.
11:45 Slide show
Presentation of slides submitted by institutions across Virginia.
12:00 Cultural Performance
A student group will present a cultural performance.
12:15 Opening welcome
Opening welcome by Jane Wemhoerner, Executive Director of VaCIE, and Gene Nichol, the President of the College of William and Mary. Acknowledgement of institutions represented and sponsors.
12:30 Served Lunch
Menu: Baby greens with mandarin oranges; rosemary chicken with toasted garlic aioli and pecan couscous; tiramisu. (Vegetarian entrees available upon request.)
1:00 Keynote Speaker
Mitchell Reiss, former Director of Policy and Planning for the U.S. Department of State under Secretary of State Colin Powell and current Vice Provost for International Affairs at the College of William and Mary will serve as our keynote speaker.
2:00 Presentation of GIED essay contest winners
Awards will be presented to this year’s essay contest winners.
2:15 Cultural Performance
A student group will present a cultural performance.
2:45 International Film Screening (University Center, Auditorium)(optional)
Introduced by a William and Mary faculty member, the film L’Auberge Espagnol will be screened in the Auditorium of the University Center.
*Unless otherwise indicated, all GIED events will be hosted in the Chesapeake Room on the second floor of the University Center.
